Overview
Rated Diesel Generator Set - CUMMINS BC-CC688D-60 (550 kW / 688 kVA) standby, the BC-CC688D-60 comes built around a KTAA19-G5 engine, in open type configuration, and delivers 60 Hz, three-phase four-wire, at 110/208 V – 277/480 V.
Backup power for heavy industry and projects: continuous-process plants, mining and infrastructure, where the set usually comes with synchronising gear, an external tank and a maintenance plan set by running hours. BCP’s Cummins range spans 28 to 2090 kVA with Cummins power, intended for standby duty and for extended running depending on how the fuel and cooling system is specified.
Typical applications
- Mining and heavy industry
- Continuous-process plants
- Data centres and hospitals
- Ports and desalination plants
- Turnkey EPC projects
Standby and prime ratings
The standby rating (688 kVA / 550 kW) is what the set delivers during a grid outage, for a limited number of hours a year and without sustained overload. The prime rating (PRP) allows continuous duty with varying load. Sizing starts from the real load in kW, corrected by power factor, with headroom left for motor starting.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between standby and prime?
Standby is the power available in an emergency, limited to a set number of hours a year; prime is what the set can sustain continuously with varying load. A set sized for standby should not be used as prime generation without re-checking the duty.
What voltage and connection does the BC-CC688D-60 deliver?
It is offered at 110/208 V – 277/480 V, three-phase four-wire, 60 Hz. Final nameplate voltage is fixed at order stage according to the site network and the transfer arrangement.
What maintenance does a set of this size need?
Oil and filter changes every 250–500 h per the engine manual, quarterly oil analysis, injector checks and a load test each quarter. Under prime duty the interval shortens.
